Get Involved & Join the Team

Flashpoint Labs is a fast paced start-up that is less than a year old. The demand for our programs and services is growing rapidly and we want passionate people to join our motivated team.

We need casual volunteers (eligible for paid jobs), part-time volunteers (potential for payment), part-time interns (costs covered) and members.

Flashpoint Labs Volunteers and Participants

Flashpoint Labs Volunteers and Participants

Casual volunteer ‘guides-by-the-side’ (makes you eligible for paid jobs through the Flashpoint Labs Photography Agency)

You are an experienced professional or amateur photographer that is interested in working one-on-one with program participants from diverse backgrounds. You have some experience working with young people and understand the notion of being a guide, catalyst, mentor and enabler rather than a teacher. You realise that every opportunity to work with young people is an opportunity for two-way learning and that you are there to learn from the participants as much as they are there to learn from you. You are willing to spend time understanding participatory learning and photography prior to your first workshop. You may be interested to join the Flashpoint Labs Photography Agency and be represented by the social enterprise as a commercial photographer.

Check out some of our current volunteers here.

If this sounds like you, register your interest to be a casual volunteer guide-by-the-side. We will then contact you with more information.

You will be put on a volunteer roster and contacted every time a workshop opportunity comes up. Some programs are locked in well in advance, some pop-up workshops happen at relatively short notice (one week). You indicate whether you are available to be involved in the workshops as the come up and there is no need for an up-front commitment. This is the same if you decide to join the Flashpoint Labs photography agency. You are put on our roster of commercial photographers and you are invited to work on paying jobs as they come up. You are invited to use Flashpoint Labs program participants as assistants in your shoots. Income is split between you, the assistant and Flashpoint Labs. The more committed you are to volunteer as a guide-by-the-side, the more chance you have of getting paid jobs from the agency.

What we do

Flashpoint Labs empowers young people to be creative learners, thinkers and professionals through changemaking photography.

Why we do

We exist because we want to increase visual literacy, show pathways to employment in the creative industries and improve well-being. We want to provide young people with innovative, interactive and informal learning opportunities where they are able to creatively express themselves and gain new skills.

How we do

We run participatory photography programs and create innovative learning spaces and experiences with volunteer professional photographers. Our approach is human centred, participant driven and collaborative. We encourage ‘investigative-learning’ and are there as ’guides-by-the-side’ to assist in fearless experimentation and knowledge seeking.
